A city built in three dimensions
Chongqing is stacked on ridges where the Yangtze and Jialing rivers meet, so a flat map is useless — you will take an elevator down to a street, cross a bridge and find yourself on the 12th floor of somewhere else. The light rail runs along the riverbank past tilted apartment blocks, and on a foggy day the whole city looks like a scene from a film. Book a private Chongqing tour if you want someone else to handle the staircases and one-way streets.
