Shitouzhai stone village and rafti
Shitouzhai, 40 yuan, is a Buyi village where every wall, roof, lane and courtyard is built of stone — no brick or tile anywhere, and even the milling equipment is cut from rock. It is also a batik centre: you can watch women wax-drawing and dyeing by hand, and buy a piece for anywhere from a few dozen to a few hundred yuan depending on size.
In the afternoon, run the Huangguoshu rafting route 6 km downstream of the main fall: 158 yuan, over 30 m of total drop and 12 rapids, the biggest single drop more than 4 m. The karst peaks along the bank run to a thousand metres and it is common to see rain falling on the summits while the valley below is in sunshine. Rafting in rain is considered the classic version.
